Umbrella

Time goes fast when you are having fun! The weekend in Vancouver went by so fast...

On Friday we woke up super early at around 4am. Then Gizem was a honeybum to drive us to the airport! Emigration went without problems and our flight left on time. We flew with Air Canada and only travelled with cabin luggage - yes mum, I can do that too for a few days ;-)

We arrived at the Vancouver International Airport and took the Skytrain to the city. We stayed in the HI Hostel Central which was very cool. We booked a mixed genders 4-bunkbed-room. Vancouver's crew were Andrea, Meikel and I. Sophia, a collegue from my homeuniversity joined us in Vancouver. She is currently studying in Seattle and drove all the way to Vancouver (around 4 hours).

Sooo what did we do on our first day? Well... it was raining like hell... really bad! And it was freezing cold. So my mood wasn't really good. I have to admit I was really pissed because we came from great weather to shitty weather - super timing! So all the photos from the first day are mostly taken with my mobilephone as I didn't wanted to ruin my camera! We walked along the harbor front, to the steamclock, made several stops in several coffeeshops to warm up and dry a bit - haha!

Lunch at Nandos.

I saw some pics on Instagram about the steamclock... then this happened... "Currently under maintenance..."

In the evening we decided to go to the cinema. We saw the movie "100 foot journey" see the trailer here:

That movie was really cool! The camera captured great moments from the fruits and veggies and we had soooo much hunger when we left the cinema. In Canada they don't sell sweet popcorn - why not???? Hellooooo??? But after the cinema we went to a cool bar where Sophia and I had dinner, the others weren't hungry.

We went to bed quite exhausted because we had to get up so early and because it was so cold. The aftermath of walking around all day - drying my shoes with the hairdryer :-) Under my umbrella, ella, ella ey...

The next morning we had breakfast at the hostel which was included and really good! Today's plans were walking via the waterfront to chinatown, then get in Sophias car and drive to the stanley park and to see the "green" golden gate bridge which is called lionsgate bridge. Slowly as the weather was good, I went from being not so much in love with Vancouver to hmmm think I like it here ;-)

Check those pics out - they speak for themselves!

View from our rooftop:

These colors of the trees... puh!

Third beach! No idea where first and second beach are but heeeey, we made it to third beach ;-)

The skyline...

Totempoles:

In the evening we went to the Granville Island where we had dinner. After that we drove back to our "hostel-area" where there are a lot of restaurants and bars and had some nice cocktails there!

On our last day we did some shopping... Robsonstreet is a really cool place and has all the stores which makes me happy: Forever21, Urban Outfitters and also a Topshop - yeahyeahyeah! The last afternoon did we spend to drive to the Grouse mountain. You get on top by driving with a cablecar - expensive but cool experience! It was cold on top but even with the clouds it was really amazing. They also have 2 grizzlys there - yihaa tourist attraction... Sophia drove us back to the airport and then went home. But not bevore we made a stop at "Tim Hortons" which is the Canadian equivalent to Starbucks. And so much cheaper, and the muffins to much better!!!

Check out Grouse mountain:

On the airport we spend our last 5 dollars buying tea and coffee at "Tim Hortons" again, then our flight went back home. We studied during the flight and arrived around 11 pm in SFO. Gizem and Gerardo where so nice to pick us up and drove us home - a million thanks again!!!

I have to admit the first day wasn't really how you like a weekend getaway to be: rainy, cold,... but nevertheless I started to like it on the second day, and the view on the third day - great!!! So here are my must sees for Vancouver:
  • Grab some coffee and a pumkin spice muffin at "Tim Hortons"
  • HI Hostel Downtown which was clean, cheap - good to save some money which
  • you can spend at Robson Street
  • Grouse mountain - that view...
  • Stanley Park with the totempoles and a great skyline-view
  • great friends to make a great weekend even more great
So Sophia - you need to come visit us in SF asap!!! No excuses!!
