Ordinary people

This morning we started very early and drove all the way back from Seattle to Portland. On our way there, Yvona texted me that she thought that Portland was a weird place.... Now I guess I know what she meant! It is cool here, but somehow weird. Sooo many people on the street want something from you, homeless people are very polite but ask a lot about some change for tickets or pizza. Sooo we woke up at 5.40am and started our drive at around 7am. It takes time until everyone showered... we made one quick Starbucks stop and arrived at the airport at around 10.30 am to hand the car back in. Then we took the high line train to the hostel. We are staying at an HI hostel - we thought its the same like the one we stayed in Vancouver, then we were a bit nervous if it is good but were relieved pretty quick. We have a 4-bed-room together and the bathroom is clean - so everything is alright. Our first stop was at Lips Pizza, a place were they have lunch specials and we all ate pizza in several versions. After the pizza we walked to famous Vodoo Doughnuts a crazy Donut Store! Verrrrry delicious! I tried a vegan one and it was heaven... On our way to the donut store we came across 'Powell's" which is the biggest bookstore chain the US. I bought some souvenirs for some people at home and I really liked their postcard selection - nice place! People can sell their old books there and they came with big banana boxes full of books.

After our foodcoma we walked to the waterfront which is very unspectacular and as it is soooo freaking cold we only wanted to go inside so we went to a great mall! The good thing about Portland is - taxfree city!! We had a look at a few shops and ate some asian food before going to the movies. We watched "horrible bosses 2" which was very funny. Now everyone is kind of knocked out because we had to get up so early and because it is soooo coooold outside. Good night everyone!
